Can we drink the water in Trinidad and Tobago or should we bring iodine tablets?

According to the Trinidad and Tobago listing with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, drink bottled water or use iodine tablets for local water. Our group will always have access to markets and/or restaurants, so you will be able to purchase bottled water.

Do we need to bring bed bug spray, given the recent global outbreaks?

Bed bugs are not currently a reported problem in Trinidad and Tobago.

Who should I ask about the SU health insurance coverage available for purchase for this trip?

Email Jean Hayes in International Programs at jhayes@su.edu.

Do Trinidad and Tobago have the same kind of electrical outlets we do in the U.S?

Usually, yes. But sometimes, no. To be safe, bring a universal electrical adaptor. For more information, click here.

Do our hotels feature air conditioning or mosquito nets?

The Little Inn and Mt. Plasir in Trinidad are air conditioned. Man O War Bay cottages are not air conditioned but are comfortable. From Valerie, here's a link for information on a lightweight mosquito net that the Mozambique travelers were required to buy. It arrives within a week. From Trip Advisor, mosquitoes can be an issue at the Man-o-War Bay Cottages, even during the dry season and in spite of the ocean breezes. The windows are screened and the management does not provide mosquito nets.

Is the University registering us with the U.S. Department of State?

The SU Office of International Programs will register all of the groups with the U.S. Department of State and the relevant Embassy in Trinidad prior to our travel dates. At our last pre-trip meeting, each traveler will receive a contact card listing the nearest embassy. For more information on registering overseas travel, see the State Department website.
